Before overtaking the world of Punjabi music, Harry Sandhu, born Hardavinder Singh Sandhu, was a talented cricketer who even played the under-19 circuit. Harry later switched to music after an injury, hitting fame with songs like Soch and Naah. He also acted in 83, a film about India’s world cup victory, where he played Madan Lal.
Recently, Harry Sandhu appeared on an episode of Mashable India’s The Bombay Journey, where he spoke about his cricketing days as an under-19 player. He also recalled his friendship with Shikhar Dhawan, and revealed that he played opposite Rohit Sharma in two matches.
When asked about Shikhar Dhawan being his roommate, Harry Sandhu said, “Under-19 India mein mera roommate tha Shikhar (Dhawan). Uss time jab hum under-19 mein the India mein, main injured ho gaya tha, mera stress fracture ho gaya tha. Uss waqt usne (Shikhar Dhawan) meri thodi help ki thi, usne kaha tha, ‘Bhai, it’s okay.’” Sandhu then said that when his injury later got worse, Dhawan suggested to him a physiotherapist to visit Delhi.
When asked how Shikhar Dhawan is as a roommate, Harry Sandhu said, “He’s very good. Very good. Hamari abhi bhi baat ho jaati hai. Bohot kum baat hoti hai, par kabhi ho jaati hai toh ache se baat hoti hai.” Speaking further about Shikhar Dhawan’s interest in music, Harry Sandhu said, “Unko pata tha main gaata hu. He’s also into music; woh flute bajana seekh rahe the. He’s very good”
In the end, Harry Sandhu recalled bowling against Rohit Sharma twice in two separate matches, saying, “Balling ki hai maine, do match khela hu, dono baar out kara hai.”
