The show has returned for a new season with a new story that explores another crime. Directed by Rohan Sippy, the season 4 follows another criminal case taken on by Pankaj Tripathi’s character, Madhav Mishra. Mishra is known for fighting against injustice and for his clients, but this time, instead of taking a pro bono case, he finally accepts a case from a wealthy client. Even though it puts him at odds with a high-paying consultant job, Mishra decides to stick by his client and do justice to him. Season 4 does take a different path as compared to the plots in previous seasons, but Mishra hasn’t changed, which keeps the audience rooted in the story.
Season 4 begins with Mishra taking on a consulting job for a big law firm to keep up with his status. The first case he is asked to be part of has him convincing the victim to settle, as it would be in his best interest. With a small settlement amount, Mishra begins to learn how the big companies work, however, it doesn’t sit well with him. On the other hand, Anju Nagpal wants Mishra to take on her husband’s case as is getting arrested by the cops for his girlfriend’s murder. Anju who lives right across walked in on Raj Nagpal holding a bleeding body of his GF Roshini after hearing their maid’s distressed scream.
Dr Raj Nagpal continues to claim he isn’t the one who killed her but was trying to save Roshini. The cops arrest him on the suspicion as the murder weapon is missing, but Mishra reveals that after the weapon is found his chances of getting convicted will be higher. The show for eight episodes follows the trail and the cops as they uncover new evidence, find new witness and more. The first three-four episodes continue to develop the characters and story as the suspect list begins to grow bigger. The writers took their time diving into the relationships whether it is the separated couple, the victim (Roshini) and Raj or the family dynamics with their autistic child.

Pankaj Tripathi brings back his innocent performance with wise moments, but the comic relief has been dialed down as compared to previous seasons. Meanwhile, the makers also explore the dynamics between recurring characters like Mishra’s team, his family as well as the cops and their family. With all working on the same case, and previous vendettas on their mind, the show’s runtime keeps the several plots well balanced.
The plot does began to get repetitive with a limited number of suspects. The early episodes make it evident who is and could be the culprit but the story runs in circles with no major changes and reveals as they get close to the finale. The supporting casting including the family involved in the case have some of the most talented actors from the industry. Zeeshan Ayyub plays the father who is suspected of the crime with Asha Negi is the victim and the girlfriend. Zeeshan has previously impressed fans with his performance, but despite a heavy role, the screenplay does not given him much to do other than look sad and confused. Meanwhile, Asha gets the most of it with several versions of her character to play. Surveen Chawla as the mother and the wife has much to offer, but her somber role doesn’t leave her much to explore.

Overall, the show does explore uncharted territory with an autistic character amidst a murder trial but other than that the show sticks to the formula. With high expectation from anything starring Pankaj Tripathi, that might not be up to the mark, but he season 4 is as enjoyable as it can get.
