Amazon is finally bringing ads to Prime Video starting January 29 for users in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada. Here’s all you need to know about it.

After an announcement earlier this year, Axmazon is reportedly going to start implementing ads in the Prime Video streaming service across its range of movies and TV shows starting January 29, 2024. But to avoid them altogether, users can choose to pay an extra $2.99, as first reported by The Verge.

These advertisements are going to be “limited” in nature, and the company says that by implementing the same will allow it to continue investing in creating quality content for its viewers.

Also, initially, these ads would make their way to Amazon Prime Video customers in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada, but are expected to trickle down to users in countries including Australia, Italy, Spain, and more. But there’s no word on if the same would be implemented in India as well.

“We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership,” Amazon said in an email sent to subscribers.

In the US, users will noW have to pay a little shy of $18 monthly for Amazon Prime if they want to experience Prime Video ad-free after the price jump.

In India, Amazon Prime costs Rs 1,499 per year or they can choose to pay Rs 299 monthly. This includes access to the Prime feature on Amazon, Prime Video, Amazon Music, and more. Also, there’s another tier called Amazon Prime Lite which costs Rs 799 per month.
