Kiran Rao Reveals Her Condition For Submitting Laapataa Ladies For Oscars Next Year

Kiran Rao who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Laapataa Ladies has opened up about sending the film to Oscars in the coming year. The filmmaker and producer talked about the possibility during a promotional event and said that it would be only possible if the audience of the nation appreciated the film first.

For the unversed, the film marks the directorial debut of Kiran Rao. Led by Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Chhaya Kadam in lead roles, the film follows a missing person case. Made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the film is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami.

Talking about the film, the filmmaker said, “Our primary recognition comes from the audience’s response at the box office. If the viewers and the nation appreciate our work, that would be the greatest accolade for us.”

Talking about the idea of sending the film to Oscar she added that is will be considered only after finding out the audience’s reaction in the nation. She explained, “Following that, we will consider submitting the film for the Oscars next year. There is a specific community tasked with assessing and selecting the finest films of the year, and if our film is deemed worthy, we will submit it for the prestigious Oscars.”

She concluded by saying, “However, for now, we are eagerly anticipating the recognition we are yet to receive on March 1, 2024, hinting at the film’s release.”

Earlier the filmmaker and the film made headlines for her war of words with Sandeep Reddy Vanga and his film Kabir Singh.
