Maharaj Director Pens Heartfelt Note As Junaid Khan Starrer Finally Releases After Legal Battle

The much-anticipated film “Maharaj,” starring Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, has finally released on Netflix. Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, the film faced intense opposition for the alleged misrepresentation of Sadhus. The Gujarat HC had stayed the release after a case was filed against the movie but the film emerged victorious.

In his heartfelt post, Malhotra likened the release of “Maharaj” to the arrival of a child for a filmmaker.

“A film release is almost like the arrival of a child for a filmmaker. The labour of love would like to be celebrated and announced with elan,” he wrote.

The director emphasized the challenges faced in bringing the story to life, highlighting the uphill battle against various obstacles. Despite these challenges, Malhotra expressed immense pride in the film, urging audiences to watch and share it.

“Please watch the film and share it on social media to spread the word. We promise you it’s well worth your time and your families too. It’s a story hopefully you will agree that needs to be told,” Malhotra said.

The film is inspired by a true story from 1862, adapted from Saurabh Shah’s book, “Maharaj.” It revolves around the Maharaj libel case, which exposed the alleged misconduct of a prominent spiritual leader known as Maharaj. Journalist Karsandas Mulji played a pivotal role in uncovering these wrongdoings, earning widespread acclaim for his courage and dedication to the truth.

Khan stars in the film as Karasandas Mulji whereas Ahlawat plays the role of Maharaj.

“Maharaj” faced significant legal hurdles prior to its release. The makers had to contend with a legal battle in the Gujarat High Court. Only minutes after receiving a clean chit from the court, Netflix released the film, marking Junaid Khan’s debut in the film industry.
