Minimal Effort, Maximum Results: The Appeal of Skinimalism in Beauty Care

It will be interesting to see how environmentally conscious, new-age consumers will make skin-minimalism a way of life.

From cleansers with hydration benefits to moisturisers with SPF protection, the concept of simplifying skincare routines is becoming the popular choice for healthy and happy skin

The availability of an abundance of beauty products in the market unintentionally makes the skincare and makeup process, a complicated choice for consumers. People spend hours in front of the mirror following their multi-step skincare routine daily to get that plum and hydrated skin. Amid all this, ‘skinimalism’ (or skin minimalism) is steadily gaining prominence among the younger generation.

Ayan Chakraborty, Senior Vice President and Plant Head of the Consumer Products Division, Ginni Filaments Ltd., says, “This new trend is based on the ‘less is more’ approach, which simply refers to buying products offering myriad benefits to simplify the entire skincare routine. The innovative formulations of offering multiple benefits in a single bottle or tube or jar have streamlined the routine. It has not only made taking care of the skin or using makeup less overwhelming but also pocket-friendly. Even from an environmental perspective, it has helped reduce the amount of waste.”

From cleansers with hydration benefits to moisturisers with SPF protection, the concept of simplifying skincare routines is becoming the popular choice for healthy and happy skin. Chakraborty shares some latest multi-tasking products that are available in the market and can maximise efficiency:

  1. Exfoliating CleanserCleansers with exfoliating agents like glycolic acid, lactic acid, coffee grounds, or oatmeal can work on the skin with double duty. They can help exfoliate the skin and remove dirt, makeup, and impurities like a cleanser. The micro-fine beads in it gently cleanse rough and dull skin to reveal its natural surface. Using such an exfoliating cleanser will eliminate the need to exfoliate twice a week and keep your skin feeling smooth all the time.
  2. Serum doubling as PrimerA primer creates an even base on the skin, making it easier to apply makeup for a smooth look. Buying a serum that doubles as a makeup primer can create a good base for makeup application. Serum alone won’t be as effective as a long-wear makeup primer. So, focusing on formulas that have a high concentration of active ingredients, like vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, in a lighter texture for better results can eliminate a step from the daily skincare regime.
  3. Eye Cream with ConcealerEye creams with light-reflecting particles or tinted formulations can be effective as concealers, providing coverage for dark circles. Choosing the right formulations can help hydrate the delicate skin under the eyes, along with brightening and soothing it. They are available in multiple skin tones to match the complexion.
  4. Setting Spray with Hydrating IngredientsSetting spray infused with hydrating ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid can help lock in moisture and keep the skin looking fresh for a longer time. Infused with vitamin E and aloe vera extracts, the setting spray with hydrating ingredients gives the skin flawless and long-lasting makeup.
  5. Lipstick with SPF ProtectionLipstick that comes with the benefits of moisturizers and SPF protection is ideal for protecting the delicate skin of the lips from the searing summer heat and harmful UV rays. These are infused with the benefits of ceramides and hyaluronic acid, providing complete protection and repairing the cells for glossy, smooth, and plump lips.
  6. Facial Oil with AntioxidantsFacial oils with antioxidant properties can moisturize the skin and provide protection from environmental stressors and free radicals. Rather than using two different products, using one with ingredients like vitamin E or green tea extract will provide added protection. These are some of the commonly available products with multi-tasking properties. One can choose from the range of options available depending on the skin type and need. Brands and manufacturers are both positive about this growing trend and are expecting a longer shelf life. It will be interesting to see how environmentally conscious, new-age consumers will make skin-minimalism a way of life.
