Shabana Azmi is one of the most respected actors in Indian cinema. However, she is also known for being competitive with her fellow actresses and has even openly admitted it herself. Recently, the veteran actress sat down for a chat with filmmaker and longtime friend Mira Nair. The duo recalled a rather hilarious interaction between them in the bathroom of a five-star hotel.
As reported by Indian Express, the duo was speaking at the New York Indian Film Festival when Mira Nair asked Shabana Azmi to list the most memorable directors she has worked with. The veteran actress replied, ”I have a grouse with a director who I’ve been talking to for several years, saying that we should work together. And finally, she gives me a tiny role that doesn’t do justice to our relationship or her faith in me, and that woman is sitting next to me”.
This prompted filmmaker Mira Nair to share the hilarious interaction. She said, ”One of the earliest times I met Shabana was when she chased me into a women’s room in a five-star hotel in Juhu, and said, ‘What does Rekha have that I don’t have?’ Humari pyaar ki ladayi hui in that ladies room”.
Shabana Azmi and Mira Nair worked on the latter’s film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, in 2012.
