Netflix Engagement Report: Indian Content Clocks Over A Billion Views In 2023, Jaane Jaan, Jawan And More On List

Netflix reported in its second engagement report on Friday that series and movies from India reached over 1 billion views on the platform in 2023. The report, titled “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report,” covered viewership data from July to December 2023.

In the second half, subscribers watched about 90 billion hours of content on Netflix. Non-English shows and movies were very popular, making up nearly one-third of all viewing. Korean, Spanish, and Japanese language stories were especially popular, accounting for 9%, 7%, and 5% of viewing, respectively.

Top Indian Titles of 2023

  1. Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan: 20.2 million views
  2. Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan: 16.2 million views
  3. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya: 12.1 million views
  4. OMG 2: 11.5 million views
  5. Lust Stories 2: 9.2 million views
  6. Dream Girl 2: 8.2 million views
  7. Curry & Cyanide: 8.2 million views

Most watched series

  1. The Railway Men: 10.6 million views
  2. Kohraa: 6.4 million views
  3. Gun and Gulaabs: 6.4 million views
  4. Kaala Paani: 5.8 million views

The report also highlighted notable international titles. From Germany, ‘Dear Child’ garnered 53 million views, while Poland’s ‘Forgotten Love’ saw 43 million views. Mexico’s ‘Pact of Silence’ attracted 21 million views, Korea’s ‘Mask Girl’ had 19 million views, Japan’s ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ achieved 17 million views, and Spain’s ‘Berli’” reached 11 million views.

Most Watched Global Titles

Globally, the most watched movie was ‘Leave the World Behind’, starring Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts, with 121 million views. Adam Sandler’s animated film ‘Leo’ followed with 96 million views. The anime-inspired live action series “One Piece” was the most watched series, attracting 72 million views.

Fan favourite original titles like ‘Wednesday’, ‘Red Notice’, and ‘Squid Game’ continued to draw in millions of views in 2023, long after their initial premieres on Netflix.
