Pixar Multiverse Exists; Toy Story, Inside Out All Belong To Same Universe And Here’s Proof

Pixar is gearing up for one of its biggest releases of the year. The studio has been at the forefront of kids movies for decades and one of its most popular movies in recent years is Inside Out. The film follows a young girl Riley and explores how the emotions in her mind take control over her mind and life. The makers are getting ready for a sequel which will continue to explore her story and the changes in her emotions as she grows older. While fans are more than just excited for the film’s return, some were quiet to spot a tiny detail in the new trailer.

The detail has now proved a Pixar theory timeline by Jon Negroni. The fan theory claims that all films by the studio fall in the same universe and can be watched in a designated timeline from The Good Dinosaur dated millions of years ago to Brave which takes place somewhere around the 10th century (year 1300-1400) to Monsters Inc in the future year 4500-5000. The idea behind the Pixar theory is that magic prehistoric or not, it causes creatures or inanimate objects to become sentient like in the Toy Story series. After humans destroy the world, sentient objects eventually take over turning it into a world like Cars. After Wall-E helps repopulate it again, we return to a world of humans and monsters like Monsters Inc.

Pixar has essentially confirmed the theory with a single poster that makes a quick appearance in Inside Out 2‘s new trailer. This marks the first time the studio has acknowledged the timeline theory and the same universe theory that puts the whole franchise into perspective. In the trailer, Riley can be seen in her bedroom and on the wall behind her, a poster of a band called 4*Town can be spotted.

For the unversed, this is not the first time the band has been mentioned in a Pixar film. Its recent release Turning Red also featured the band in several scenes. The mention of the same band puts both the films Inside Out and Turning Red in the same universe. While Turning Red is set in 2002, the first Inside Out is set in 2007. While the sequel takes place a few years after the first film, the band can exist almost eight years apart.

While it has been somewhat confirmed, the same universe fan theory has some very bizarre and interesting anecdotes about the Pixar films. The theory claims that the witch from Brave is actually from the future and used doors from Monsters Inc. to travel through time. In the pre-historic film, she is seen surrounded by the wooden carvings of Sulley (the lead character of Monsters Inc.). Another part of the theory claims Sulley’s human companion is the Witch travelling through time, and that she learned her magic from the family in Turning Red. This would also explain the similarities between their powers of helping humans turn into animals.

The theory suggests the Witch’s story is not done yet and Pixar is sure to surprise fans with something in the future. On the other hand, Inside Out 2 is set to release in June 2024.
