The Chainsmokers Recall Performing At Akash Ambani’s Pre-Wedding Event: ‘Just Kept Getting Bigger And Bigger’

The Ambanis have grabbed more headlines in recent times for their weddings than anything else. Both Akash and Isha Ambani had lavish weddings. And now, Anant Ambani is getting married to Radhika Merchant, and the family has already thrown two high-profile pre-wedding parties; one in Jamnagar, and the other in Portofino in Italy.

They have also invited multiple pop stars, some of the most famous in the world, to perform at the weddings. Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Martin, Katy Perry, Pitbull, Akon, and The Chainsmokers have all performed at Ambani events.

The latter, The Chainsmokers, recently performed in Mumbai for regular folks and, during an appearance on the Raj Shamani podcast, Alex Pall, one half of the DJ duo, spoke about his experience of performing at the Ambani wedding, as well as the Kotak wedding.

Alex Pall revealed that The Chainsmokers were in India last year (2023) to perform at Jay Kotak’s wedding. Jay Kotak is the son of billionaire Uday Kotak.

Alex Pall described Jay Kotak’s wedding as “really fun.” He said, “We were there for the first or second day; it was like a twelve day event. We went back to the US and moved on with our lives and then everyday, for the next two weeks, I was like, ‘This wedding is still going on,’ and it just kept getting bigger and bigger.”

Talking about performing at Akash Ambani’s pre-wedding event back in 2019, which was held in St Moritz in Switzerland, Alex Pall said, “It was amazing, it was probably the coolest wedding I’ve been to.” This pre-wedding also saw a performance by Chris Martin, and was attended by the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, and Aishwarya Rai, among others.

He also spoke about his curiosity about the concept of arranged marriages in India, discussing how weddings in the United States are very different from the weddings that happen in India.

Speaking about his experience of Indian weddings, Laughing, Alex Pall said, “Well, the US has some fascinating weddings, if you want to zoom in on the the weird s**t that Americans do for weddings. It’s more of a family and a cultural thing. Maybe in India, that’s not the case, but in the US, some people love big, grand weddings, but it also depends on if your parents are still together or not. If your parents have been divorced for 20 years and hate each other, maybe let’s not spend too much on the wedding.”
