Vijay Deverakonda Says He Is Not Interested In Working With First-Time Directors; ‘It’s A Huge Challenge’

In the ever-evolving landscape of Indian cinema, actor Vijay Deverakonda has made his stance clear: he’s not ready to take chances with debutant directors just yet. In a recent interview with Indiaglitz, the actor opened up about his preferences when it comes to choosing projects and the kind of directors he wants to collaborate with.

The conversation arose during the promotions of his upcoming film Family Star, where Vijay expressed his reservations about working with first-time directors. He explained, “No, I don’t work with debutants now. At least they need to be one film old. It’s a huge challenge to handle things when you come straight onto a set. There will be a lot of pressure to handle the budget and scale. When they do one film, it will help them get into the groove. It’s like having a practice match and warm-up.”

Elaborating on his approach to selecting directors, Vijay emphasized the importance of readiness and proficiency. “I need my directors to be fully ready to exploit me,” he remarked. “I don’t want to work with debutants. Even if they are one film old, I observe their music sense, edit sense, and visual storytelling procedure. Their movie doesn’t need to be a successful one. If they are one film old and I like them, then I am game to work with anyone,” he continued.

The actor also spoke about the failure of his film Liger and said, “There is no change in my attitude. I have remained the same before and after the release. The only difference is that I decided not to talk about the results of my films (before release) for the next three movies or so. That’s the punishment I gave myself.”
