WhatsApp has revolutionised the landscape of instant messaging. The messaging application has become an essential communication tool for individuals worldwide. Yet, frequent usage of this popular platform for interactions with friends, family, or clients can consume substantial storage space on your device. The daily influx of messages, humorous content, and videos within WhatsApp groups may contribute to the depletion of valuable storage on your iPhone.

To address this issue and optimize storage, it’s essential to understand why WhatsApp consumes so much space and explore effective solutions.

Talking about clearing WhatsApp storage, there are two main ways to do so on iOS:

Managing individual Chats and Media:

Step 2: Now tap on the “Data and Storage” option, then scroll down and look for the “Storage Usage” option.

Step 3: You’ll now see a list of all WhatsApp conversations sorted by the amount of storage they consume.

Step 4: At the bottom of the screen, select the “Manage Storage” button and tap on an individual’s chat to see a breakdown of its storage usage by Photos, Videos, Documents, and Messages.

Step 5: From there, tap and hold the media item that you want to delete and click the Clear button.

Clearing All WhatsApp Data:

This method is helpful if you want to quickly remove all WhatsApp data from your device, including chats, media, and settings. However, keep in mind that you’ll lose all your messages and media permanently.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your phone and tap on Settings.

Step 2: Then click on chats, scroll down and tap on clear All Chats.

Step 3: Key in your phone number to verify and tap on ‘Clear All Chats’ again.

Remember, regardless of the method you choose, back up your important chats and media before proceeding to avoid losing them permanently.

Auto-download settings: Adjust the auto-download settings for media (photos, videos, and voice messages) so that they only download when you tap on them. This can prevent unnecessary storage consumption.

Chat Backup: If you want to keep a backup of your chats, activate iCloud Chat Backup in WhatsApp settings. This will back up your chats to iCloud, freeing up space on your device.

Disappearing Messages: Turn on disappearing messages for all or certain chats to manage space. Set a default timer to when the messages you receive and send will disappear.
