The 82-year-old actor, a household name for his cinematic legacy and his hosting duties on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), wrote, “Ab bas! Kya karein? Umra ho gayi, chhod do kaam ab… humko kaam se chhutti lene ka man hai, baaki aap sabki marzi!” Translated, this means, “That’s it! What to do? Age has caught up, let go of work now… I feel like taking a break from work, the rest is up to all of you!” The message instantly triggered rumors that the veteran star might be ready to step away from his decades-long career in films and television.
Amitabh, often referred to as the Shahenshah of Indian cinema, has captivated audiences for over 50 years with iconic roles in movies like Zanjeer and more recent projects like Kalki 2898 AD. His journey on KBC began in 2000, and aside from Season 3, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, he’s been the show’s unwavering anchor, making it a staple of Indian television. Understandably, fans were shaken by the possibility of his exit, flooding social media with questions and concerns.

The actor didn’t leave his audience hanging for long. During a recent episode of KBC 16, Amitabh tackled the rumors with his characteristic charm and humor. In a promo for the show, he said, “Arre bhai sahab, humko kaam par jaane ka samay aagaya hai… gajab baat karte ho yaar! Aur raat ko jab 2 baje yahan se chhutti milti hai, toh ghar pahuchte-pahuchte 1-2 baj jaate hain. Woh likhte-likhte humko neend aa gayi, toh woh wahin tak reh gaya… Jaane ka waqt aur hum so gaye!” This translates to, “Oh brother, it’s time for me to go to work… you say such amazing things! And at night, when I get off at 2 a.m., by the time I reach home, it’s 1 or 2 a.m. While writing, I fell asleep, so it just stayed there… time to go, and I dozed off!” His witty response made it clear that the tweet was a product of late-night fatigue, not a retirement declaration.
For now, it appears Amitabh Bachchan has no plans to slow down, much to the delight of his fans who continue to cherish his presence on screen and stage.
