Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in lead roles, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf had earlier announced that they would be releasing the film directly on Amazon Prime Video, skipping its theatrical release due to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict. However, PVR INOX, India’s leading cinema chain, sued Dinesh Vijan’s production house, Maddock Films, for Rs 60 crore due to facing significant financial losses after the abrupt cancellation of the film’s theatrical release.
Reportedly, #BhoolChukMaaf will now hit theatres on 23rd May- before its OTT premiere two weeks later, following a court order in favour of #PVRInox.

While the hearing of the case took place, the Bombay High Court had ordered a stay on Bhool Chuk Maaf’s direct-to-OTT release. Now, days before the film was supposed to be released on Prime Video, it is being reported that the makers will release the film in theatres. Quoting a Pinkvilla report, Free Press Journal stated that the legal dispute had intensified over the weekend, which led to the film’s return to its original plan for a theatrical release.

Quoting the entertainment portal’s source, the report stated that the court has passed an order in the Maddock Films vs PVR Inox Cinemas case. “Bhool Chuk Maaf, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will now release in cinemas on May 23, 2025. Maddock Films plans to resume its marketing campaign from May 15,” said the source.
Despite the standard digital release window for Hindi films being eight weeks post-theatrical release, the media report mentioned that Bhool Chuk Maaf will make its debut on Prime Video in just two weeks, ie, on June 6. Due to the new court directives, the makers of the film won’t have to pay Rs 60 crore to PVR Cinemas, since the OTT release has reportedly been cancelled. It is to be noted that the makers of the comedy film are yet to officially make an announcement on the same.

Backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Bhool Chuk Maaf is directed by Karan Sharma. The Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi starrer tells the story of a man eagerly waiting to get married to his girlfriend. However, he finds himself in a time loop, stuck on the day before his wedding. The movie also stars Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, and Raghubir Yadav in pivotal roles. It will be releasing on Amazon Prime Video on May 16, 2025.
