Daredevil has returned once again to the small screen, making his office debut for his solo series. The show, led by Charlie Cox, will also be following the story of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin aka Fisk. Daredevil’s return to the MCU is after the long-running series and spin-off like Defenders on Netflix. The series was dropped a couple of years ago, but Cox made several appearances in other MCU films and projects including Spider-Man No Way Home, Echo, She-Hulk and more. Moving forward with Kingpin’s Arc through the MCU and Daredevil’s past in the Netflix show, the new series is all set to pit them against each other in a new setting. With Fisk as Mayor of New York, and Murdock hanging up his suit, the city brings out the worst in both of them.
The show begins by bringing its characters down, reintroducing Matt Murdock as the lawyer and Kingpin as the Mayor after (supposedly) turning a new leaf. Matt is focused on being a good lawyer to his firm and a good friend to Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. He mainly stays out of trouble, as others would say about his Daredevil activities, but it’s not enough, and the difference becomes more evident throughout the rest of the season. Matt continues taking on cases, making sure their prime witness is safe, but one night when one of their clients seems to be in trouble, Matt runs to his rescue, but it is a diversion. He ends up losing something even more important, Foggy Nelson.
One of the most stressful moments in the early episodes changes the course of Matt’s future in the show. Matt doesn’t just lose his best friend but, in a way, he also loses his identity. Part of Murdock’s principles as a hero is that he lets the law take the right course of action. But after Foggy’s death, Matt is unable to control himself. It doesn’t lead to the killer’s death, but not being able to avenge him does take a toll on Murdock.

On the other hand, much of Kingpin’s arc has been recent in shows like Hawkeye, Echo. But we get a quick recap about him taking control of his life, finding a new vision for the city, and running a campaign to become New York’s Mayor. His relationship with Vanessa has been a major part of his story and the same remains true for the show as well. However, the new show isn’t just about Daredevil’s comeback but also Fisk being reborn into his own version of evil. The show gives an aspect of his character a slow and definite growth which separates him from his previous version, making him more ruthless and gearing up for what’s next.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have great chemistry onscreen even if they don’t share screen space directly. Cox has great action scenes, and his emotional turmoil in the show will make his performance a fan favorite throughout the on screen presence of the character. Vincent D’Onofrio also brings in his A game with his performances, as he inches closer to the end of the season 1, the more threatening and larger he appears. The camera work for his character in different settings sets him apart, in different situations making it an even more engaging performance.

Overall, Daredevil Born Again is one of the best Marvel releases on the small screen in recent times, especially with a street level story and it brings in a lot more hope for the MCU as a whole. The show is currently airing on JioHotstar.
