Did Ektaa Kapoor Just Confirm Smriti Irani’s Return To TV With Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Reboot?

Actress-turned-politician Smriti Irani became a household name in the 2000s when she starred in Ektaa Kapoor’s show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Not only did the Minister for Women & Child Development and Minority Affairs shot to fame, but her character Tulsi Virani was one of the most beloved from the show. Well, it seems like the Bollywood and television filmmaker is all set to reboot the film after 25 years of its first time airing. Kapoor, who recently attended an event, officially confirmed the return of the show.

While she didn’t actually reveal if Irani would be returning, she did hint at it leaving netizens excited to witness Irani’s return to television. As reported by the Free Press Journal, Ektaa addressed speculations of producing the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Confirming that the show will be returning with 150 episodes, she explained, “The love we have for this program brought everyone related to it back together to complete just those 150 episodes to reach that 2000-episode mark. This show deserves that.”

When questioned if Smriti would make her television comeback with the show, she hinted at it rather than confirming the news. She was quoted saying, “We are bringing politics into entertainment, or better, a politician into entertainment.”

For those who don’t know, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ran for around 8 years. With more than 1,800 episodes under their belt, it is still considered one of the longest running shows, which ruled Indian television. Apart from Irani, the show made Amar Upadhyay, Ronit Roy, Hiten Tejwani, Mouni Roy, and others household names. It was earlier reported that both Smriti and Amar were approached by the makers to reprise their roles as Tulsi and Mihir Virani. Reportedly, an official announcement on the reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi might be made by June 2025.

Smriti Irani had made her acting debut with Aatish in 1999, before she featured in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi from 2000-2008. She quit acting in 2013, and decided to join politics.
