Salman Khan and Asin’s Ready is one of the most hilarious films in their careers. Yet, many remain unaware that it is a remake of a Telugu movie of the same name, featuring Ram Pothineni and Genelia D’Souza. During a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Genelia was questioned about whether she felt disappointed that Salman Khan didn’t approach her for the Hindi version. She responded, “No, I would have loved to do it, because it was my film there, what I love to do. But maybe there’s another film in store for me with Salman Khan. You never know.”
The original Ready, a 2008 Telugu-language action-comedy, was directed by Srinu Vaitla, produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, and penned by Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan. It features Ram Pothineni as Chandu and Genelia D’Souza as Pooja, supported by a robust ensemble cast including Nassar, Brahmanandam, Sunil, Kota Srinivasa Rao, and Jaya Prakash Reddy. The story follows Chandu, a carefree engineering student from a close-knit family, who assists his cousin in eloping. In a twist, he accidentally kidnaps Pooja instead of the intended bride.

Pooja, an NRI escaping an arranged marriage plotted by her feuding uncles over her inheritance, finds herself in Chandu’s household, posing as a spiritual disciple. A playful romance develops, but her scheming uncles soon disrupt their bliss, leading Chandu to hatch a quirky scheme, posing as American auditors to win over the uncles and secure Pooja’s love. The Telugu Ready emerged as an unexpected blockbuster, ranking among 2008’s highest-grossing Telugu films. It earned cult status as a family entertainer, praised for its lively humor, dynamic lead chemistry, and captivating plot.
The film was subsequently adapted into Hindi with Salman Khan and Asin in the lead roles. Directed by Anees Bazmee and released on 3 June 2011, Salman’s Ready is a masala extravaganza, weaving action, comedy, family drama, and chart-topping music, becoming one of Bollywood’s biggest non-holiday blockbusters of all time.
