Released on Friday, the makers of Housefull 5 have released two versions of the film titled Housefull 5A & Housefull 5B. Co-starring an ensemble cast of 19 actors, the Tarun Mansukhani directorial has garnered mixed reviews from critics as well as netizens. If media reports are to be believed, the film has gotten the widest release in Akshay Kumar’s career as it is being screened in around 5,000 screens across India. Well, what has garnered more attention to the film are the two versions, not with different languages or with viewing format, but with two different climaxes.
Yes, you read that right! Both versions of the film have a different climax and a different killer. Opening up about the same, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who has also penned the script, shared his insight on doing so during the trailer release event in Mumbai. While talking to media publications, he had said, “I have been thinking about this for the last 30 years, that if I make a thriller, what would be the X factor? How would people leave the theatre? So I have written a story wherein every theatre will have a different killer. If you watch Housefull 5 in Gaiety, you will see one killer, and in Galaxy, you’ll see another killer. In Screen 4, you’ll have one killer and in Screen 5 another killer.”

It is to be noted that the plot in both films stays the same, only the killer is different in both versions. Set on a cruise ship, the story starts with a wealthy billionaire (Ranjeet) is mysteriously murdered during his 100th birthday celebration, after he announces that he will be leaving his wealth to his successor Jolly. However, the twist is that there are three Jollys on the cruise- Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan, who come to the gathering with their girlfriends Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, and Jacqueline Fernandez. Chaos ensues as they become the suspects for the murder.
According to the makers, the film’s runtime is 140 minutes. While the first two hours of both films are the same, the last 20 minutes differ from one another. As reported by the Hindustan Times, both versions have secured almost equal screens. Most multiplexes have kept 2 shows per screen for both films, with additional shows going to Kamal Haasan’s recently released film, Thug Life.
