Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, who recently marked a triumphant return to Bengali cinema with Puratawn after a 14-year hiatus, shared insights into her grandchildren Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan’s Bollywood careers.
During an interview on Anandabazar Patrika’s YouTube channel, the iconic star discussed their journeys in the film industry. Sharmila expressed mixed feelings about Ibrahim’s debut in Nadaaniyan, stating, “Ibrahim’s film was not good, but he still looks very handsome. He has tried his best. These things shouldn’t really be said in front of everyone, but honestly, the picture isn’t great. Ultimately, the picture has to be good.”
However, she lauded Sara Ali Khan’s commitment to acting, saying, “Sara is a good actress. She works very hard and is capable of doing a lot more. She’ll also achieve that.” In 2023, Sharmila Tagore faced a lung cancer diagnosis and quietly battled the disease.
Recently, her daughter Soha Ali Khan spoke about that challenging period, revealing, “I have had loss in my family. We have been through stressful situations, as everybody does.” She added, “With my mother, she was one of the very few people to be diagnosed with lung cancer at stage zero, and no chemotherapy, nothing. It was cut out of her and she is, touchwood, fine.”
Regarding Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut film Nadaaniyan, it faced harsh criticism online. Both Ibrahim and co-star Khushi Kapoor were panned for their performances. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Shauna Gautam, the film struggled to find favor with audiences.
For those who don’t know, Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s Netflix movie Nadaaniyan was panned critically by almost everyone who watched it. Social media has been flooded with memes and jokes about how horrible the performances of the lead actors are.
