The last we heard from Hibino Kafka was after his disposal was delayed. While the JAKDF decided not to kill him and turn him into a weapon for one of the commanders, the decision for his future was still unclear. On the other hand, the third division was sent off to join different divisions while their fort is Tachikawa Base.
After the reckon mission, the defense force returns to their new respectable post among which Kikoru Shinomiya gets assigned to the First division led by Gen Narumi. Narumi though one of the most strongest among all of the defense force members has a quirly personality which leaves Shinomiya questioning the team decision. However, once on the battle field he makes it clear why none of the usual respect and ideals make a difference from him. His one rule for his team members to show their power and true strength.
The rawness of the team has Shinomiya excited but there is one other member who is asked by Isao Shinomiya to join the First division, aka Hibino Kafka. While the captain isn’t too happy about Kafka joining the team, he cannot refuse the Chief’s orders either. Kafka is also determined to prove his worth and survive as a member of the defense force so he can once again fight by his childhood friend and how the captain of Third division Mina Ashiro.

The new season is bound to explore the world outside Third division which was at the center of the story for season one. But the series has moved on to focus on Shinomiya father daughter duo, Kafka and Narumi’s dynamic. The first episode does not dive into the main villain for the next arc, but the trailer hints at the return of Kaiju no 9 and his plans to attack Kafka aka Kaiju no 8.
The animation in the first episode was on a softer side, but with episode two it returns to its peak action motion similar to season one. The new characters do have some promising moments which leave much to be desired from the lead characters of the series. The manga already has much to look out for and given the season 1, the new episodes in coming weeks is expected to be more fun.

Overall, Kaiju No 8 is a fun watch with much to offer as a shonen anime with fantasy elements.
