A new documentary titled In Whose Name is set to offer a raw look into the life of rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, focusing on his personal struggles and turbulent marriage with Kim Kardashian. The trailer, released on August 13, 2025, features emotional moments between the former couple, highlighting West’s mental health challenges and their strained relationship. Directed by 18-year-old filmmaker Nico Ballesteros, the film includes never-before-seen footage captured over six years.
The trailer opens with West stating, “I’m off my meds for five months now,” as he walks among Yeezy sneakers, possibly from his 2019 Forbes cover shoot. Kim Kardashian, audibly emotional, responds, “Your personality was not like this a few years ago.” The clip shows tense exchanges, including West angrily saying, “Never tell me I’m gonna wake up one day and have nothing,” to which Kardashian replies, “We can talk about that later, but,” before West interrupts, “It ain’t no but.”
The documentary captures West’s public and personal battles, including his 2020 presidential campaign, where he tearfully revealed at a South Carolina rally that he and Kardashian considered aborting their daughter, North. The trailer also shows West declaring, “I would rather be dead than be on medication… Either they destroy me or I destroy it,” and reflecting on his mental health, saying, “You know the best thing about being an artist and bipolar? Anything you do and say is an art piece.” West, who first spoke about his bipolar disorder in 2018, claimed in 2025 that he was misdiagnosed and is on the autism spectrum.
In Whose Name also features moments with West’s children, including a scene with his eldest daughter, North, now 11, riding in a car with him. The film explores his struggles with fame, mental health, and public backlash, including his controversial antisemitic remarks that led to the loss of major brand deals with Adidas, Balenciaga, and others.
Kardashian, who filed for divorce from West in February 2021, has previously spoken about protecting their four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm, from his erratic behavior. In a 2022 podcast, she said, “I definitely protected him, and I still will in the eyes of my kids. For my kids. So, in my home, my kids don’t know anything that goes on [in] the outside world.” Despite their divorce, finalized in November 2022, the two continue to co-parent.
In Whose Name is set to release in select theaters on September 19, 2025, through AMSI Entertainment in partnership with AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. The documentary promises an intimate portrait of West’s highs and lows, offering viewers a chance to draw their own conclusions about his legacy.
