Filmmaker Priyadarshan who is currently working on Akshay Kumar and Tabu starrer Bhoot Bangla, had left Hera Pheri fans ecstatic after announcing that he would be directing the much-anticipated third installment of the film franchise on his birthday. The franchise stars Akshay Kumar as Raju, Suniel Shetty as Shyam and Paresh Rawal as Babu Bhaiya. As the filmmaker is all set to return to the franchise after 25 years, he has now revealed his plans for the film.

During a recent media interaction, he opened up about his decision to direct Hera Pheri 3 and the expectations people have from the film franchise because of its successful predecessors. While he expressed how he had never expected the film to have such lasting popularity, he also acknowledged that it will be challenging to meet the audience’s high expectations.

The 68-year-old filmmaker revealed that he plans to start working on and writing Hera Pheri 3 next year. Expressing how it is going to be very challenging due to people’s expectations, he added that “people are waiting to see Akshay, Paresh and Suniel again.”

Quoted by News18, he added, “We always say that it is easy to make people cry, it is easy to scare people but to make them laugh is very difficult and that too without using double entendre dialogues ..you have to make humour so pure and identifiable. Then, humor also changes, and the taste of the society changes. We have to catch up with that. Characters have gotten older and accordingly people should believe…these are important things.” He concluded his comment by saying that he will be taking the film as a challenge.

For those who don’t know, the Hera Pheri franchise sees Akshay Kumar essay the role of Raju, Paresh Rawal as Baburao Ganpatrao Apte aka Babu Bhaiya and Suniel Shetty as Shyam. While the Hera Pheri also starred Tabu and Gulshan Grover, the second installment of the film, Phir Hera Pheri, co-starred Bipasha Basu, Rajpal Yadav and Rimi Sen in pivotal roles. The second part, which was released in 2006, was directed by late filmmaker Neeraj Vora.
