Allu Arjun, the celebrated star of Pushpa 2: The Rule, is reportedly set to take the lead in a massive upcoming film directed by Atlee, stepping into a role originally intended for Bollywood heavyweight Salman Khan.
The project, buzzing with a reported budget of ₹500 crore, marks a significant shift after budget concerns derailed earlier plans with Khan. Atlee, known for helming the blockbuster Jawan, is now gearing up to collaborate with the Telugu superstar, with pre-production slated to kick off in April, and filming expected to begin by mid-2025.
“Although the paperwork is still pending, the Pushpa 2 star has principally greenlighted the project and will most likely commence working on it as his immediate next,” a source close to the development revealed. This update highlights Arjun’s swift move to capitalize on his recent success, following Pushpa 2’s monumental box office haul. The film, backed by Tamil production giant Sun Pictures, is poised to be a grand spectacle, though logistical details are still being ironed out.
Initially, Atlee had envisioned this venture with Salman Khan, but financial hurdles prompted a rethink. “Shooting timelines and other logistical aspects are being worked out, but Atlee is looking to kick off pre-production by April-May,” the source added, signaling the director’s determination to keep the project on track with Arjun now at the helm. Speculation is also rife about Atlee’s hefty paycheck, with reports suggesting he’s demanding ₹100 crore for his involvement – a figure that’s raised eyebrows in the industry.
Fresh off Pushpa 2’s triumph, Arjun’s star power is undeniable, and this collaboration could cement his pan-India appeal. Salman Khan, too, is gearing up for the release of Sikandar, which has been directed by A.R. Murugadoss. Meanwhile, Atlee last backed Bollywood production Baby John, which starred Varun Dhawan in the lead.
While official confirmation is still awaited, the buzz around this casting switch has fans eagerly anticipating what promises to be a cinematic extravaganza.
