Suniel Shetty Recalls Anil Kapoor’s Hurtful ‘50% Heroes’ Comment After Mohra Poster Release: ‘Voh Star The Toh…’

Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty is one of the most down-to-earth actors in the entertainment industry. No matter the fame he achieves, he never forgets his humble beginnings. During a recent interaction, he recalled the time Anil Kapoor had allegedly dismissed him and Akshay Kumar by stating that they are “50% waale heroes,” after their film Mohra’s poster was released. Having starred in many star-studded films, he revisited the hurtful yet humbling moment.

Talking to Radio Nasha, about the incident, he revealed that the comment was made when they both were carving a place for themselves in the Hindi film industry. It had certainly struck a nerve. Confirming that he had read about it, he said, “Yes, there was this type of dialogue—I saw it in the newspaper too.”

Explaining that not being seen as a “full-fledged hero” at that time had stung. Quoted by Economic Times, he said, “Lekin voh star the toh bol sakte the. He meant that a single hero should have been taken instead of two actors.” Despite the painful comment, he expressed how he knew that they would soon achieve their stardom. “Toh bura toh lagta hi hai. But we also knew we hadn’t become stars at his level. Still, we believed something would happen for us eventually,” he concluded.

Released in 1994, Mohra became a cult classic which led to their stardom sky-rocketing and establishing them as the most sought-after actors in the industry. Directed by Rajiv Rai, the film was produced by Gulshan Rai. It also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Raveena Tandon, Paresh Rawal, and Gulshan Grover in pivotal roles. With high-octane action sequences, chart-bursting songs like Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast and a gripping storyline, it became a massive box office hit. Mohra became India’s second highest-grossing movie of that year.

On the work front, Su niel Shetty will be next seen in Kesari Veer, a historical action drama featuring Vivek Oberoi, Sooraj Pancholi, and Akanksha Sharma. The film is slated for release on the big screens on May 23, 2025.
