After DC’s Batman led by Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves turned out to be a massive success, the makers didn’t waste any time before annoucing a spin off series led by The Penguin. Unlike Joker, this Gotham villain is only part of the Matt Reeves, Batman universe and will only focus on his journey as the crime lord in the city. Played by Colin Farrell, it will also bring back refrences from the Batman film and follows history of other characters that showed up.
The Penguin is actually a lieutenant of Carmine Falcone, the mob boss. His OG name being Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot in the upcoming spin off he will be called as Oz. We have already met Carmine Falcone in the Matt Reeves’ directed film. HE was seen as he father of Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Zoë Kravitz’s Catwoman. While the upcoming show will not see Zoe, it is set to see Sofia Falcone.
Recently set pictures of Penguin and Sofia in costumes went viral on soical media hinting that she will have a major role in the film. According to reports, she will be seen fighitng for control of Gotham alongside Penguin. Reeves earlier had claimed that the show will explore Cobblepot’s quest for control as he “grabs violently for power in Gotham.”

Meanwhile, the plot logline revealed that ‘The Penguin will explore the character’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld.’ The show is expected to take place just weeks after the end of Matt Reeves’ Batman when most of Gotham is sumerged in the water. The film ended with the Riddler achieving much of his goal and was arrested and sent to the asylum.
Farrell also talked about the show during an interview and revealed, “I read the first script for the first episode, and it opens up with my feet splashing through the water in Falcone’s office. Even just that alone, I read it, I was like, ‘Oh, jeez.’ It’s lovely. It’s so well-written.”
The show’s first look was released back in April. The in-production teaser showed off Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell’s new look as the trigger-happy “kingpin of Gotham.” In a deep voice he could be heard saying “Step out of line, even once, I’ll gut you like a goddamn fish.” Fans could not recognize him under the suit and still many pictures from sets go viral due to his look.

While the release date has not been confirmed, the makers have released a new clip from the show in a teaser trailer for upcoming 2024 and 2025 titles. The show has been listed under 2024 releases and has not been affected by the changes in management at the DC studio office. Meanwhile, the production had seen a set back during the strike, but it is underway in New York at the moment.
