Twinkle Khanna Reveals What Indian Women Receive As Valentine’s Day Gift From Husbands: ‘As Usual A…’

In her latest column for the TOI, Twinkle Khanna, AKA Mrs. Funny Bones, penned about desi couples and their dating lives, relating them to a handful of popular thought experiments, including Occam’s Razor, Ship of Theseus, Schrodinger’s Cat, Pavlov’s Dog, and more. In her article ‘Love in a beaker topped with crispy bheja fry’ she interpreted the phases of the relationship between two lovelorn stock characters, a gym boy and a dancing queen. The journey starts at Plato’s Cave, where shadows cast the illusion of reality. Love at first sight happens between the duo as they are attracted to their physical traits. It moves onto the next phase of Schrodinger’s Cat, where the couple is unsure if they are in a relationship now. In the proceeding short phase of Pavlov’s Dog the attraction is stronger and mostly physical, which is often mistaken for real love.

Further along the article, Twinkle Khanna delves into the history and context of Valentine’s Day and the corporate consumerism it has dumped on humanity. Speaking of which, Khanna says if you ask an Indian woman who has been married for over a decade, ‘“What did your hubby gift you on Valentine’s?” The answer would most certainly be, “As usual, a headache!” Or in shuddh desi hindi, “bheja fry.”

In her ‘Bheja fry’ valentine’s article, Twinkle Khanna also took a jibe on last year’s rolled back government resolution to celebrate Valentine’s Day as Cow Hug day. Wonder if she would muster more courage to speak up about vigilantism in the name of cows and the Valentine’s Gift by the government to its people.
