Actress, filmmaker turned politician Kangana Ranaut is an avid social media user. She often takes to her official handles to talk about the ongoing things in the country. On Tuesday, she lashed out at director Hansal Mehta, who she has worked with earlier in Simran, and slammed him for claiming that he lacks clarity on demolition of her Mumbai office by BMC, which happened in 2020.

For those who don’t know, it all started when Mehta recalled a traumatizing incident from the year 2000, when Shiv Sena workers had vandalised his office and physically assaulted him after being offended with a dialogue in his film Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar, despite not having watched the film. He went on to reminisce how they publicly humiliated him by making him apologize to an elderly woman. The event was seemingly attended by “at least 20 political figures, 10,000 onlookers and the Mumbai Police watching in silence.” This tweet was in the wake of the outrage Kunal Kamra is facing for criticising Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.

Coming back to his tweet, as he opened up about the ordeal, netizens accused the Shahid filmmaker of cherry-picking on events to talk about. They questioned him on why he didn’t raise his voice when the BJP MP’s Mumbai office was demolished by the BMC in 2020, for speaking against Shiv Sena. Mehta claimed that he lacked clarity on the matter and asked people to “enlighten” him about the matter.

Known for never backing down, Ranaut too to her X handle and slammed the filmmaker. She wrote, “They called me names like haramkhor, threatened me, served a notice late in the night to my watchman and next morning before courts could open bulldozers demolished the entire house. High court called the demolition completely illegal. They laughed at it and raised a toast to my pain and public humiliation.”

She went on to add, “It seems your insecurity and mediocrity has not only made you bitter and stupid but it had blinded you as well, it’s not some third class series or atrocious films that you make, don’t try to sell your dumb lies and agendas here in the matters related to my ordeals, stay out of it.”

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut was last seen in her directorial debut Emergency. She essayed the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Based on the 21-month emergency period faced by India from 1975-1977, the film faced a lot of backlash from certain quarters for misrepresentation of their religion even before the film had been released. She will be next seen in a Tamil psychological thriller alongside R Madhavan. The project is directed by AL Vijay. She also has Bharat Bhagya Vidhata in her pipeline.
