Malaika Arora has faced relentless online scrutiny for years, with trolls frequently mocking her bold fashion choices, relationship decisions, and even her age. Despite being called derogatory names such as buddhi and aunty, the actress and television personality has chosen not to let ageist remarks dull her confidence. In an interaction, she spoke about how she processes such negativity, why some comments can still trigger her, and the role her son Arhaan Khan plays in helping her rise above hate.
She reflected on the constant age-shaming and explained that terms like buddhiya are deeply insensitive. Although people often view her as a strong and happy figure, she pointed out that trolls fail to recognise the emotional impact of such remarks. According to her, the image of a cheerful, glamorous personality hides the reality that some words can still upset or unsettle her.
Malaika admitted that occasional comments do manage to affect her, but she has trained herself to channel the experience positively. Instead of being consumed by negativity, she believes it is important to respond with resilience and to prove one’s strength. She maintained that critics may say whatever they wish, but she would always aim to demonstrate her ability to rise above the noise and continue pursuing her passions without hesitation.
The actress also shared how her son Arhaan Khan often becomes her biggest pillar of support when she is targeted online. She revealed that Arhaan’s advice helps her shift perspective, as he encourages her not to take trolling too seriously. He frequently reminds her that such comments hold little significance and should not determine how she feels about herself. His straightforward outlook, she said, activates her own coping mechanism and allows her to leave the negativity behind and move forward.
Over the years, Malaika has been subjected to jibes about everything from her “duck walk” to her daring wardrobe choices, with critics branding her looks as “age-inappropriate.” Trolls have even commented on her personal life, particularly her past relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor. Yet, through all of it, she has maintained a strong stance of individuality, style, and self-expression.
Most recently, Malaika appeared as a judge on the second season of the dance reality show Hip Hop India, alongside choreographer Remo D’Souza. The show, which streamed on Amazon MX Player, concluded in June with contestant Shubhankar emerging as the winner.
