Shah Rukh Khan, the Badshah of Bollywood, aka King Khan, achieved Bollywood stardom in the mid-90s. Prior to making it big on the silver screen, SRK appeared in several television series. The actor who aspired to be a sportsman was let down by an injury that gave him more time to spend honing his skills in the theater.
During his undergrad days at the Hansraj College, SRK was associated with acclaimed theatre director Barry John’s Theatre Action Group (TAG) in the late eighties. One of his theatre colleagues, Amar Talwar, who won critical acclaim for his role as Raj GJ Singh in the cult DD teleseries Shanti (1994), happened to sneak a few pics of the pre-Bollywood SRK in glorious monochrome.
On his latest Facebook post, the former UNICEF photojournalist clicked SRK. One of the pictures shows Shah Rukh behind the lenses. The other photograph is with Talwar’s son, Manoj.

Remarking on these rare, never-before-seen snaps, Talwar stated these were clicked sometime around 1990. On his early day camaraderie with SRK, the Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham actor quipped that the duo did two plays together, namely “Rough Crossing” and “Who’s Life Is It Anyway.”
For the third play, “Lend Me a Tenor,” SRK was cast as the lead; however, the star was replaced by Talwar since Shah Rukh left for Mumbai. “The rest is history, I guess,” Talwar remarks.
Amar Talwar is not as active as an actor; however, he continues to click visuals and goes on a venturesome ride on his trusty bike, planting trees along the way.
